Golden Hour Face Oil

Facial Treatment Serum  •  For skin that has lived a little

I made this one for myself first. Somewhere past forty my skin stopped behaving the way it used to. It became drier, thinner, holding lines that used to smooth back out overnight. Everything on the shelf either promised me a miracle or made my face burn.

So this is the middle road: seven things, each one chosen because it earns its place. Bakuchiol does the renewing work that retinol does, gently. Rosehip and evening primrose feed what has grown thin. Squalane, jojoba and meadowfoam carry it all in without a trace of grease. It absorbs in about a minute and leaves skin soft rather than slick.

What's Inside

Botanical

Why It's Here

Bakuchiol

(Psoralea corylifolia)

The gentle alternative to retinol. It encourages the skin’s own renewal and supports firmness and tone — without the stinging, flaking and peeling that sends so many women away from retinol for good.

Rosehip Seed Oil

(Rosa canina)

Pressed from the seed of the wild rose. Rich in the fatty acids and natural vitamin A compounds that soften the look of fine lines and bring a little light back to tired skin.

Squalane

(Olea europaea)

Olive-derived, and nearly identical to a lipid your own skin makes less of with each passing decade. It sinks in without a trace and gives this oil its weightless finish.

Jojoba

(Simmondsia chinensis)

A liquid wax rather than a true oil, which is why it sits so comfortably on the skin and holds the barrier steady through dry winters and dry years.

Meadowfoam Seed Oil

(Limnanthes alba)

A quiet workhorse. It seals moisture in with a soft, non-greasy finish and keeps the whole blend fresh far longer than it would stay on its own.

Evening Primrose

(Oenothera biennis)

Carries gamma-linolenic acid, the fatty acid traditionally turned to for skin that has grown thinner, drier and less elastic with time.

Vitamin E

(Tocopherol)

Nature’s own keeper of oils. It guards the delicate seed oils in this blend from turning, and is a comfort to the skin in its own right.

A word about the bakuchiol

Bakuchiol is the molecule at the heart of the babchi seed, and it has been studied side by side with retinol — with much of the same benefit and far less of the irritation. I use only the purified form, free of the sun-sensitizing compounds found in raw babchi oil. Nothing in this bottle will make your skin flinch.

How to Use

•     Morning and Evening, on damp skin. Press three to five drops into clean, slightly damp skin. Damp skin drinks oil far better than dry.

•     Warm it first. Roll the drops between your palms, then press them in rather than rubbing.

•     Don’t forget the neck. The skin on the neck and chest ages first and tends to get tended to last.

•     You will start seeing results after 2 weeks. Renewal is slow work. Skin turns over on its own calendar
